Tribute Pictures was born from a passion.
Every family has a story and every person has a legacy. The stories of our lives have the extraordinary power to reveal or conceal, to comfort and convict, to delight and teach. What might seem like mundane details about one’s lives, when woven into narrative, become treasures to future generations. The passion of Tribute Pictures is to unearth these priceless tales and document your family’s history on film.
I was a kid of the 80’s and wholly consumed by the movies of that decade—particularly anything Spielberg. So when our family got a video camera, I took to it quickly. Roaming around the house with the camera on my shoulder, I hounded my parents and siblings and abused them with unnecessary zooms. It wasn’t long until I started making my own stop-motion action movies with GI Joe and the Transformers making top-billing. If you’re not amazed yet, here’s a little sample of my work…
Apart from the local General Cinema, my other favorite place to be was at Memaw’s house. Let me tell you, my grandmother could spin a yarn. She was a master story-teller with sage wisdom and quick wit. She grew up on a dairy farm in the early 1920’s in what is now considered downtown Houston.
For years I had considered capturing her on video telling all of those incredible stories, but each year I procrastinated thinking there would always be more time. Though my grandmother had always been healthy, at the age of 82 she fell one day rushing to the kitchen to prevent her greens from burning on the stove. That fall led to a series events that would eventually take her from this world, along with all of her stories. What I wouldn’t give to have a chance to hear her to tell those stories again.
As a pastor in a local church in Northwest Houston I’ve had the honor of sitting down with scores of people over the years to hear the tales of their lives. I’ve been heartbroken and I’ve been inspired, but I’ve always been in awe of how unique each account is. These stories of our lives have the extraordinary power to reveal or conceal, to comfort and convict, to delight and teach.
Don’t wait until tomorrow to chronicle these important treasures. With our years of interview experience and editing skill, we can not only document these valuable narratives, but present them in a way that is as unique as each individual’s story.
